The lambda zeta Chapter

Welcome!

w/ The 2025 chi omega President, Adriana Spangler

“Hi! My name is Adriana Spangler and I am currently serving as president for Chi Omega at UMKC! Joining my chapter has benefitted me incredibly in a variety of ways, including giving me confidence in my leadership abilities, helping me to immerse myself in the UMKC community, and providing me a unique opportunity for sisterhood that I would not have otherwise. I have met so many amazing people that have truly impacted my life in immeasurable ways.

Something I love about recruitment at UMKC is its implementation of values-based recruitment! Chi Omega was founded on six values - friendship, scholarship, career and personal development, community service, high standards of personnel (personal integrity), and campus involvement. While every Chi Omega holds these values dear, the one that drew me to the organization was community service! Prior to my membership, I helped found a community service club on campus. Knowing that I was joining an organization that prioritized that value of mine was truly special, and I am so grateful that I get to live out that value through participating in service with my sisters!

Outside of community service opportunities, Chi Omega has also allowed me to serve the Kansas City area through our philanthropy, the Make-a-Wish Foundation! I am so honored to have participated in granting a child’s wish to go on a Disney cruise during my time as president!! We raise funds to grant wishes through events like Chi O Cravings, Swishes for Wishes, and Chi O carnival, among other small events and fundraisers. Having the ability to make such a profound impact on a child’s life is something I will truly never take for granted.

One of my favorite parts of my time in Chi Omega has been watching each pledge class move through the house. Members have the unique opportunity to live in our chapter house during the second year of their membership. I have created so many amazing friendships with so many of my sisters. From getting late night sweet treats to movies in our couch room, I have so many fond memories of living in that I would not trade for the world. Getting to live with a group of girls my age is something I would not have been able to experience without Chi Omega!

The absolute best decision I have made during my time at UMKC was to join Chi Omega. It has been my constant when times were rough and provided me with a base of support that I otherwise would have never had. My membership has transformed my life by giving me a sense of belonging, a purpose, and true sense of home away from home. I hope that Greek life at UMKC can provide that experience for others as well!”

“Our Sisters are committed to Chi Omega’s six purposes. These purposes guide each Chi Omega member and include the following: Friendship, High Standards of Personnel, Sincere Learning and Credible Scholarship, Participation in Campus Activities, Career Development, and Community Service. The message of “personal responsibility” cannot be shared enough. Each member’s choices and actions affect the entire chapter and our national organization. By embracing Chi Omega’s six purposes and placing our values at the root of our words, thoughts, and actions, we are able to truly enjoy one another as Sisters and as friends.

“However magnificent Chi Omega’s purposes, realization of them is determined by the ability of the individual members. Each individual’s resourcefulness is in proportion to the strength of the desire to succeed, guided by intelligence.”

-Mary Love Collins, Chi Omega National President, 1910-1952
